Does eating organic foods lower your risk for cancer?

By eating mostly organic foods, you can lower your overall risk of developing certain types of cancers, specifically non-Hodgkin lymphoma and postmenopausal breast cancer. This was a clinical study done in France and written in the JAMA Intern Med

organic-versus-non-organic-foods

(Journal of the American Medical Association, Oct 2018), and composed of 68,946 French adults whose diets were investigated. The researchers found they (study participants) were 73% less likely to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 21% less likely to develop postmenopausal breast cancer.

To me, these results are pretty significant…just by changing your food consumption from processed and chemical laden foods to organic. Even those study

participants who ate low-to-medium quality diets but stuck with organic food experienced a reduced risk of specific cancers. Think about it. I mean, really think about it. If chemicals kill plant life and insects instantly or within a few hours of direct exposure, imagine what it’s doing to YOUR cells. Humans, plants, insects, animals…all are living things and the repeated use of chemicals is going to have a similar outcome – chronic illness, cancer or death.

The main takeaway here is that we should all be paying more attention to what we eat and choosing to buy or grow organic.

I know buying organic is more expensive, but think about it…what’s more important, your health or saving a few bucks? If you don’t have the money to buy organic, start a small organic garden and grow your own food. With a little effort, you will soon have beautiful, fresh, chemical-free vegetables. You will realize the benefits not only in your wallet but more importantly in your health and the magic of growing your own food.

Monsanto to pay $289 million in world’s first Roundup cancer trial

Let me tell you this story…Dewayne Johnson was a school groundskeeper in California, spraying weed killer up to 30 times per year on school properties. He is now battling a severe form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph system (a blood cancer) which he believes was caused by applying Roundup and Ranger Pro, both Monsanto

herbicide products. Mr. Johnson’s oncologist says he probably won’t live past 2020…he is only 48 years old.

Of course, Monsanto denies Roundup (glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide), causes cancer and claims scientific studies have shown the chemical to be safe for human use. What would be interesting is to find out who performed the studies…an independent laboratory or Monsanto? In September 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency concluded that the chemical, Roundup, did ‘not likely’ cause cancer in humans. But the World Health Organization’s cancer arm in 2015 classified glyphosate (Roundup) as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”
I wonder what the impact of spraying herbicides and pesticides on playgrounds and school grounds is on children and adults 10 years, 25 years from now? The point is, no MonsantoBayer-is-deadlyamount of voluntary pesticide or herbicide is good. I stopped using pesticides and herbicides in the yard about 15 years ago. I started wondering about the effects of weed killer on weeds and the long-term effects on humans. Roundup kills weeds to the root, not just the foliage. If used long-term, would Roundup cause chromosome mutations or alter genes from their natural functioning in humans or animals?

A little history about Monsanto, now part of Bayer…

You’ve heard about Monsanto, right? Monsanto, a seed company developed Roundup (weed killer) in the 1970s and major producer of genetically modified crops (GMO). It was purchased by Bayer (yes, the pharmaceutical giant and global pesticide company) on June 7, 2018. Bayer makes household name products such as aspirin, Aleve, Claritin, Alka Seltzer and more. At the time of purchase, it was decided to drop the Monsanto name because of its negative social status and politically charged name. The combinedmonsanto-is-now-bayer

company name is simply Bayer, but the product names remain the same.
Did you know that Monsanto is the largest seed company in the world, the largest producer of GMO seeds, and maker of chemicals? And Bayer is the largest pesticide company – globally? And now Bayer is THE largest seed AND agriculture chemical company in the world. What are the implications for the way food is grown, sourced and the impact on your health?
